With a slight member change Vacum embarked on their second album,
which would be recorded totally live at The Beacon Basement
in July of 1994, but not completed until April of 1995
when it was finally mixed at Hotel Beeler.
The session was mixed to be split over two sides of a record
or tape, so the fade out seems inevitable. The music picks up
right where it left off at the beginning of 'Cabin Fever'.
We took the liberty of dividing a little further during short
pauses in the second side. Perhaps this is not in accordance
with the original concept of one long live take album, but
in the modern world of downloading where bandwidth counts,
we decided that a couple of shorter tracks would be welcome.
If you can handle it, I highly recommend the first track
which sets the tone with a take on Pink Floyd's classic
Syd Barrett track, 'Astronomy Domine' and just keeps on going
into the band's original material.
The addition of Big Daddy's synth horn creates a whole new
layered sound in contrast to their first album which is more
a wall of squeeling guitars. Merlin takes center stage on the
six-string here and for the first time vocals feature prominantly
in a Vacum recording.
